According to the interviews there is a shared interest in #federated technologies but several things are slowing down the adoption of #decentralized tools such as: lack of awareness about these tools, strong dependency from popular platforms, perceived complexity of use ("lack of familiar features"). Our mission is to help partner organizations successfully migrate to the #Fediverse while analyzing and documenting the whole process to understand main blockers and affordances of the #federation

Did you know that #GNU/ #FSF has its own #darknet application and protocol stack?

What is #GNUnet?

GNUnet is an
#alternative #network stack for building #secure, #decentralized and #privacy-preserving #distributed applications. Our goal is to replace the old insecure Internet protocol stack. Starting from an application for secure #publication of #files, it has grown to include all kinds of basic protocol components and applications towards the creation of a GNU internet.

Today, the actual use and thus the social requirements for a global network differs widely from those goals of 1970. While the Internet remains suitable for military use, where the network equipment is operated by a command hierarchy and when necessary isolated from the rest of the world, the situation is less tenable for civil society.

Due to fundamental Internet design choices, Internet traffic can be misdirected, intercepted, censored and manipulated by hostile routers on the network. And indeed, the modern Internet has evolved exactly to the point where, as Matthew Green put it, "the network is hostile".

We believe liberal societies need a
#network #architecture that uses the #anti-authoritarian #decentralized #peer-to-peer paradigm and #privacy-preserving #cryptographic #protocols. The goal of the GNUnet project is to provide a Free Software realization of this ideal.

"Protecting #democracy from threats created by Internet #platforms is a laudable goal. But it is not worth the cost imposed by legislative attempts so far: empowering the government to control legal speech online. Lawmakers’ attempts to impose their own top-down speech rules are particularly unwarranted given the far more promising possibilities offered by #usercontrolled and #decentralized #contentmoderation systems."

I said it before on Mastodon. I'm reposting this again. Comparing #DeltaChat and #Matrix together, if you want hassle free and consistent messenger for private #E2EE chats, don't go for Matrix. DeltaChat is way better.

However, if you want something like a public forum, or a public chatroom, don't go for DeltaChat. Matrix is way better suited for that. And DeltaChat does not support public groups at all. In DeltaChat groups, there is no admin or moderator and everyone have got permission to remove or add the others.

I think I have to write a longer post on my personal blog about these two, comparing them together.

PS: Another Matrix encryption bug few minutes ago triggered repost of this.

@osman If your #OpSec, #InfoSec, #ComSec and/or #ITsec relies on @signalapp and/or @Mer__edith risking jail or worse, you fucked up!

Seriously, to me #Signal stenches #Honeypot like #ANØM & #CryptoAG.

That's why I get people setup with it!

I federated this blog

Im officially part of the cool kids club of the decentralized web: I federated this WordPress blog with the ActivityPub Plugin by Matthias Pfefferle @pfefferle. It seems to work: The plugin has created a mastodon profile that anyone can follow. New blogposts are automatically posted there. Not sure if I can comment or reply with that profile. Time to explore. #FediBlog #ActivityPub #WordPress #Decentralized

@ckrypto if@signalapp@mastodon.world wasn't complying with #CloudAct, @Mer__edith would be in jail.

Not to mention even if Signal keeps their "#OpenSource" code updated - which is doubtful, NOONE can actually #verify that it's the code you actually use - regardless if #backend / #Server or #client / #App!

  • #Signal is as secure as #ANØM, otherwise it would've been shutdown ages ago.

Also if Signal was designed for #security, it would've been #decentralized as #XMPP+#OMEMO and not demand #PII like #PhoneNumbers which oftentimes cannot be obtained anonymously in many juristictions at all!

By comparison, @delta doesn't require any PII, only an #eMail account, and @monocles isn't a #VCmoneyBurningParty but sustainable due to #subscription and they don't even require any personal details for #payment: #CashByMail and #Monero are accepted.

Again: It's Signal alone who have to evidence they are trustworthy, and all I get are "#TrustMeBro!" replies, which means they are not to be trusted.

  • Not to mention, it's just not sustainable to run a #service without #revenue, even if it's run entirely by unpaid volunteers and gets all it's #hosting and #costs donated, someone has to pay for expenses due to #abuse of a service (which is an inevitability come mass adoption)...

Whereas with #XMPP I can completely setup my own server and client, even build my own if I don't trust anyone else and pay someone to audit the code.

Whereas with XMPP & PGP/MIME #eMail I can layer @torproject / #Tor over it, make it an #OnionService and keep that thing under my bed with a literal killswitch...

Posting and pinning this because Soatok's misinformation has infected far too many. *Everyone* needs to read this in its entirety, *especially* all the #Signal Kool-Aid drinkers.

Having lots of fun using Delta Chat. I've set up two accounts on my mail server, one for myself and one for my husband. We're both surprised at how fast it is compared to more traditional centralised chat apps like Signal. It's so cool to be able to self-host this and not rely on centralised infrastructure that is outside of my control.

Now I just need to convince everyone I know it's really cool :)
