After trying out #deltachat and #arcanechat, I've discovered the #webxdc app store. My Dad loves #Sudoku puzzles, and I was tempted to play some competitive Sudoku with him. What assurance is there that there are no sketchy apps in the webxdc app store? Can these apps break out of their little jail, and root my phone? What would the #infosec community say? There's somewhat of a thread on the "threat model"/security of webxdc here (but I think it still needs more scrutiny):

Delta.Chat · WebXDC threat model?Hi, I’ve just came across this WebXDC idea through its implementation in Monocles Chat (which does not appear to be working at the moment, but that’s another story). I am trying to find a description of WebXDC’s threat model and security design considerations, but so far no luck. Would be very grateful if someone could point me to whatever information might be available on those topics.

@maple #ArcaneChat is an android client for #DeltaChat which is available for #iOS, #Windows, #Linux etc.

and now that you talk about young people, in several places people are not even allowed to get a SIM card at all until certain age, so apps like Signal that depend on phone numbers are a non-go, while I have seen several people using DeltaChat with their children, ex:

They were looking for a solution to chat with her peer group split between iOS and Android, many of whom don't have sim cards in their devices (+ parents rightly resistant to use big social apps). We installed and were chatting within 2 minutes, with hardly a mention that this is going on over email (good thing IMO). Now their challenge is to spread it to the others in the group Great work #FOSS projects meeting people where they are!

Dear friends, #screenreader users, #blind users and #accessibility professionals in particular.
Are you using chat over traditional email as provided by #DeltaChat / #DeltaLab / #ArcaneChat?
I like it uses traditional email infrastructure, is federated, supports end to end encryption, rich content including audio / voice messages. I have even recognized @adbenitez has implemented screen reader accessibility specific features into the android app.
However I have quickly tried electron based app on linux with orca screen reader, exchanged a few messages back and fort between two of my personal accounts using the DeltaChat app and thunderbird and I haven't found the user experience verry appealing. I can't understand how to effectivelly navigate in the list of conversations and list of messages.
Therefore I would be interested to hear a few comments from people knowing this platform better. How accessible is it on different platforms?
On the desktop is the electron based app a prefered choice?
Also some other questions. For the best experience, do I need a new email address or can I use my existing self-hosted one I have already configured in thunderbird?
Ffeel free to point me to a FAQ, some up to date introductory documentation if you think my questions don't make much sense please.

If you already have it you can securely continue to upgrade it now from F-Droid (or #IzzyOnDroid) thanks to #ReproducibleBuilds which ensures the apk matches the source code and not me nor F-Droid is manipulating the binary 🎉
