As Frances Ryan says:
'The exclusion of disabled women is not simply representational – disabled women are, quite literally, physically shut out of everyday life'!
But....'Disabled women are by far the biggest minority group in the world but we are still the least visible. Where are our voices? Why aren’t we part of the conversation?'
This excerpt from her book suggest we need to do more to support disabled people do what they want to do!
Mississippi libraries ordered to delete academic research in response to state laws
Lawmaker says the removal of scholarly material from library databases would provoke backlash in a state where minorities have fought for equal access to education.

I am very honored to publish this piece by @tuckerlieberman about the #reality of #gender as a social co-creation. Check out how Tucker relates being #transgender to those who came before us.
I wonder how Karl Marx would analyse the current Swedish situation where most of the university graduates and working-class women are democratic reform socialists, most of the working-class men are fascists, and nobody is a revolutionary socialist anymore.
It's quite clear though why the fascists hate academic #gender studies so much.

I am thrilled to share that my very first academic text, co-authored with my Honours supervisor, Dr. Jessica Chakowa, has been published in Gender and Language, one of the most prestigious journals in the field!
The article is based on data collected within the framework of my Honours thesis. In this project, we investigated how learners and teachers of French in several Australian universities perceive the grammatical genders in French as well as several approaches to gender-fair language (GFL). We found that GFL in French is not perceived by L2 learners as so daunting as some may have assumed. Moreover, as GFL innovations require good knowledge of how genders work in French, they may be helpful pedagogical tools for learners whose L1 does not feature such a grammatical gender system.
Grateful for Dr. Chakowa's guidance and proud to contribute to this important conversation. Check out the full article here: https://doi.org/10.3138/gl-2025-1002

#PennedPossibilities 637 — Does your MC have a past that haunts them?
May Ri watched from Mars orbit as Herschel Crater got nuked, having failed to knock out all the missiles with her railgun. Her eldest daughter worked in the capitol, in the domed city situated in that crater. Had. She has nightmares of the flash and a mushroom cloud rising. Sort of like in the attached vid.

My gender is not a rejection of being a man, I never was one. I was born with a physical defect, not a mental one. I have a medical condition, not a psychological one.

'The Meaning and Dividends of Man the Hunter'
Vivek writes: 'The phrase Man the Hunter is associated with sexist theories of human evolution, but wildly disparate use of the phrase has led to unnecessary scientific disagreement and popular misunderstanding. In this talk, which follows a recently posted collaborative paper with other hunter-gatherer scholars, I ask: what does Man the Hunter mean? I distinguish three historical meanings of Man the Hunter; first, the 1966 conference; second, popularized sexist theories of human origins; and third, the human behavioral ecology of hunter-gatherers. I then trace the historical development of these three meanings of Man the Hunter, situating their origins in evolutionary biology, ethnology, feminist studies, ethology, genetics, and other disciplines. This allows us to ask: how are these meanings connected intellectually? After presenting a surprising answer to this question, I conclude by offering suggestions for improving scientific and popular discourse regarding Man the Hunter.'
Vivek is a biological anthropologist who employs evolutionary approaches to the study of foraging behavior, energetics, and health. He earned his PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Dartmouth College and conducted postdoctoral work at Harvard University and the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse. He is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Calgary. His present research focuses in Malaysia, where he is one of the Principal Investigators of the Orang Asli Health and Lifeways Project (OA HeLP), which studies the rise of chronic non-infectious diseases over time due to rapidly changing environments. He is co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Hunter Gatherer Research.

Where have all the menstrual huts gone? was the question posed by US archaeologist Patricia Galloway in the late 90s. She wondered why there was so much ethnographic evidence for historic and current menstrual observances among SE Native American groups (eg Chickasaw, Creek, Choctaw), and yet archaeology scarcely identified ‘menstrual seclusion’ sites. Menstrual taboos, she realised, often associated with matriliny and matrilocality rather than patriarchal societies. She said: ‘Because Western societies practice the hiding of menstruation…the topic itself is treated with reticence by females, discomfited derision by males, and with pollution anxieties ...by both’.
Members of the Menstrual Hut Coalition will be leading open discussion about the past, present and future of menstrual huts, drawing on recent experience in London to reclaim women’s time/space at Dark Moon. We can learn from Indigenous cosmologies of how these space/times can move whole communities between worlds and usher ‘World Renewal’. People of all genders welcome, as we are thinking about gender interactive celebrations.
