i added LOTS of patches to my waist pouch and brought it along thinking i’d need it for outfits without pockets. turns out i’m just wearing it all the time for the great convenience of storing my face mask! it’s something i frequently take on and off whenever we pop indoors and out.
For illustrator and fiber artist Tomoko Kubo, the Japanese lettering system sparked an ongoing series of embroideries that also function as playful linguistic learning tools.
The first series that I started with my Substack publication, showcasing elements of mythology and folklore that can be related to queerness today, and how it inspires my own work, from poetry to fiber art & embroidery.
@Herbivore Oh my gosh, I’m stunned to learn how this industry operates. Now I think back to the one handknitted Norwegian sweater my grand folks brought me age 12 from their travels there. I loved that sweater so much, with angora yarn knit into the yoke design. Never had something angora again but now what I know about this, I definitely will avoid it.
Something I’ve struggled with for a stupidly long time is #crocheting Caucasian characters. The #yarn I had was either too gray, too yellow, or too pink . One of the #caron one pound beige yarns was finally the right color and I was able to move forward with the #commission! fiber arts friends - I have another friend who's interested in getting back into spinning. she's shopping for fiber, and I want to direct her to cool folks to get fiber from! she's currently using a drop spindle, and looking at kick spindles, so is also interested in second-hand / cheaper ones.

Next stage completed. Top pattern cut out in old blue sheet with freeform crochet suns laid on top in oranges, reds and yellows. The rest will be filled with lacy freeform shapes shading gradually from almost black to sunset lilacs and peaches to a black silhouette landscape at the bottom.
I do believe I'm in love with the wheat stitch lol. Voilà !
And now there's once again a headband in the works because it turns out that the color changes in this yarn are too long to show all of them in one piece. Therefore, two it is .

There was some hail this morning, so I thought I'd take a picture of one of my nearly finished lights in my #moss garden, dusted with hail, to show you. I might add some red stitches to this to support the red lights here, as they are a bit sparse. Those are made after Trichia decipiens (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichia_decipiens).
