When I reply in English to a thread that’s in another language (like German), Mastodon assigns my post the language of the thread, even though I’ve written in English and set English as my default.

This means other users (e.g. German speakers) won’t see the “Translate” option, because Mastodon thinks my post is already in their language.

Is there a way to force my posts to always be in English unless I manually change it?

As our digital lives in the US become less stable and private, I wanted to figure out how to choose what search engine my browser uses.

I just added a new default search engine option for my Firefox on my MacBook (Mac OS).

1) add an extension to Firefox to allow me to add a different default search engine:
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firef

Tip #634

Customize your Vivaldi blog’s post link structure.

You can create a custom URL structure for your Vivaldi blog’s permalinks. Custom URL structures can improve the aesthetics, usability, and forward-compatibility of your links.

To update the permalink structure:

  1. Go to your blog’s Dashboard on vivaldi.net (while on your blog’s page, click on the blog’s title on the black menu bar).
  2. From the menu on the left side, go to Settings > Permalinks.
  3. Check out the examples and elect the link structure you like.
  4. Click “Save Changes”.

Tip #633

Search for a setting in Vivaldi on Android instead of skimming through the various categories.

Vivaldi on Android has an abundance settings, which allow you to customize the appearance and functionality of the browser to your liking. The downside is that it can make finding the correct setting a bit time consuming, but we have a solution for that too – Search.

To search for a setting:

  1. Go to the Vivaldi menu > Settings.
  2. Tap on the search icon in the top right corner.
  3. Enter the search term.
