I've been using Windows 11 with privacy and security enhancements that make Windows significantly less enshittified, and I have to say it's been a hell of a lot more tolerable to use.
I don't really use or need most of the services that phone home to Microsoft. No OneDrive, no Microsoft account login, no telemetry. Just a normal local user account like the olden days.
I also use VSCodium instead of Microsoft VSCode. My settings are synced to my Nextcloud instance with a local sync extension.
I can use emacs-pgtk in WSL2 with tolerable performance. I can have systemd enabled in WSL2 so that I can run various services, including the Tailscale daemon, which makes the WSL2 instance accessible on my Headscale network.
I feel like one of the great eyes in the sky has been blocked out. Blocky DNS proxy and adblocker + unbound recursive resolver is doing other blocking and privacy work.
This...this is an optimal user experience for me. Or, as optimal as a user experience can get on Windows 11, anyway.
