Out in the city last night and was surprised (dunno why) at how busy it was.

Also the supper menu at Gimlet is worth staying up for.

I don't know if Eau de Vie is worth queuing for but why queue when Apollo Inn and Hazel and Kisume are (very nearly) right there.

(will have to report back on EdV at a later date)

In total, 10 people died, including a 20-year-old law student who passed away on her lawn, waiting for an ambulance while her family tried to resuscitate her

It soon became clear that this was a massive case of "thunderstorm asthma", which occurs when certain types of storms break up pollen particles in the air, releasing proteins and showering them on unsuspecting people below

Bus passengers of the eastern suburbs - rejoice!

Despite breaking down again yesterday, it seems that the Box Hill Bus Station escalator is back up and running today.

Have updated the counter accordingly and hopefully I can now shut up about it: philipmallis.com/2025/02/07/th

Think for a moment about the sound that comes into your head when you read this phrase:

"A band from Melbourne"?

Let me be more specific.

Acoustic.

Indie/alternative.

Fitzroy.

Northcote.

Brunswick.

Doing gigs at the hipster bars on Smith St and Brunswick St.

Now playing on PBS-FM and Triple-R.

What's the sound that pops into your head?

Earlier tonight, I listened to Marvin the Album by Frente!

And here's the uncanny thing.

The sound you heard in your head?

That's *exactly* how this album sounds.

This album is pure, distilled, undiluted Melbourne.

One of the few remaining pieces of the so-called pop-up bike infrastructure trial* is some separated bike lane fragments along Marine Parade. There was a consultation on making those changes permanent in 2024, with results from the consultation due to be released in November 2024.
Consultation results STILL haven't been released. Port Phillip BUG members have been asking about this repeatedly: to DTP, to Active Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams, and to our local members Nina Taylor and James Newbury.
Finally, Minister Williams has replied to one of our queries.... to say that they are "working through the results".
We're not holding our breath!

*so-called as many of the changes such as curb outstands were about improving walkability, more than improving cycling. More about the pop-up trial here: ppbug.org/bug-blog/2024/7/23/n

@gwynnion I feel sad about it.

I don't understand the point in pointing out someone is "different".

Humans are not made to do that. AFAIK many civilisations just found a place for everyone in their society. And why not?

Anyway, feel welcome here. That's probably all we can offer today. At Mastodon or in #Melbourne , Australia 🙂

Day 12 cont 💰 👮‍♂️ 👨‍⚖️

The #Liberals have a #candidate problem continued:

“The #Coalition’s (#LNP) election campaign is being dogged by a lengthening list of #CandidateIssues, the latest revelation that the contender (#JeffreyKidney) for the #Melbourne seat of #Wills pleaded #guilty to obtaining financial advantage by #deception and was ordered to pay #fines and #compensation worth more than $10,000.”

The poor quality of candidates is beginning to bite the Liberals.
