For thr roof in my #Freecad project, I saw others designed the tile and then made an array directly in the main drawing. Hoever the computer can become very slow and struggle. I had already made the small details( like shutters) in another file , exported as an object and then imported in the main drawing as an object. Hence I decided to try thr same with the roof & it worked well too with less impact on performance. The people in the model are scans of my wife and daughter using xbox game bar
I made a new thing...in #FreeCAD
The world surely was missing a #3dprint able #Insta360 X4 battery travel case. So I made one.
https://www.printables.com/model/1260884-insta360-x4-single-battery-case
It even mimics the slot of the actual camera, if you add the optional spring.
The biggest project I have made with #FreeCADNews . I enjoyed doing it too and found it easier than expected.BIM work bench and Parts workbench for details. Tomorrow will make plan views.

I just passed SpreadSheets, when I started learning #FreeCAD and went with VarSets.
Risky move?
The there was a bug (or could it be configuration issue) with font foreground color being white like the background, https://sw-development-is.social/@HuK/113969027695626531
Now, to think of it, SpreadSheets would offer comment column and other stuff helping refactoring like variable naming not available with VarSet.
Just started to generate ~156 parameters with Python to VarSet... Or maybe I should go w/ Spreadsheets?
It's still not finished but today I made some progress!
I am designing a case for the Xiao ESP32S3 Wio-SX1262 Meshtastic node!
The display does not fit perfectly yet, I need to do the cutout in the lid for the display and make a button.
But I am already pretty happy with the results, thank you @FreeCAD - it's really enjoyable to work with FreeCAD!
When it's finished I want to install it in the attic as my stationary Meshtastic node.
I designed a single-piece 3D printable Arca-Swiss quick-release clamp. Compliant mechanisms are so satisfying.
Made with FreeCAD. Download the model and customize it to your needs: https://www.printables.com/model/1258735-compliant-arca-swiss-quick-release-clamp
Part 3 of building the DIY seismograph. So continuing on the moving arm concept, I settled on using a servo motor as this could easily be driven by the Arduino. I had to make the arm very light so as not to put too much pressure on the small servo motor I was going to use. Here is the model of the arm. Although I went back and forth with different ends to hold the pen, ultimately I ended up going with this clip. Modeled in #freecad #maker #diy #earthquake #arduino #servomotor #seismograph
Just out of curiosity, what kind of workflows do you #freecad or other CAD package users have for simple stuff you need to model for 3D printing or CNC'ing?
I start with a crude Post-It note version and try to get all the measurements in that phase, so when I get to the good part, I can just keep on drawing without killing the flow.
@FreeCAD I made a small buildable toy tank, to be printed in TPU. It's compatible with some other models i made in the past, all of which are available here: https://www.printables.com/@msx80_200946/collections/1801383
The tank was all made in #FreeCad with a minor step in #Blender
I'm working on my roller-bearing. Tweaking physical parameters based on first 3D prints.
I wish I could have on-screen visibility and scrollability of VarSet, when I'm working on the 3D view, Sketches, solids etc.
I keep forgetting my variable logic in VarSets. Cognitive load is substantial.
Then I resort to copy pasting expression values between constraints.
This is my first major project (2nd part). Still learning best strategies, while also hoping for better UX to help #FreeCAD
It's #FreeCADFriday! What are we all working on this week? #FreeCAD
i've made a #video detailing my mini #rack server project
its made to accompany this thread, so for more details you can scroll up and/or down :)
