@yorik OK thanks for the tip! I am still learning #Freecad and Blender) for a hobby. Hence apreciate any advice! I am surely not an architect nor engineer. Most of what I learn or see is on youtube. It takes some filtering between good and bad though. 🙂

For thr roof in my #Freecad project, I saw others designed the tile and then made an array directly in the main drawing. Hoever the computer can become very slow and struggle. I had already made the small details( like shutters) in another file , exported as an object and then imported in the main drawing as an object. Hence I decided to try thr same with the roof & it worked well too with less impact on performance. The people in the model are scans of my wife and daughter using xbox game bar

A patron asked our makerspace to design and CNC mill a replica of the Gemeente-Energiebedrijf sign found all over Amsterdam. They brought us a screenshot of a stock photo and some 6mm thick aluminum to cut it out from. Here's a first rough draft, CAD/CAM in #FreeCAD and milled in a #Snapmaker Artisan. I'm a novice at this stuff, you can probably tell from the results lol, but the next one will (hopefully) be better!

I just passed SpreadSheets, when I started learning #FreeCAD and went with VarSets.

Risky move?

The there was a bug (or could it be configuration issue) with font foreground color being white like the background, sw-development-is.social/@HuK/

Now, to think of it, SpreadSheets would offer comment column and other stuff helping refactoring like variable naming not available with VarSet.

Just started to generate ~156 parameters with Python to VarSet... Or maybe I should go w/ Spreadsheets?

Originating problem is, that the text is SHOWN as white i.e. text is not visible except when the cell is active. When changing color from Custom to Custom, the custom (black) SEEMS already selected and re-selecting it actually makes the text black. In the image A1 and B1 content are 123. Only B1 is shown because it is active.

It's still not finished but today I made some progress!

I am designing a case for the Xiao ESP32S3 Wio-SX1262 Meshtastic node!

The display does not fit perfectly yet, I need to do the cutout in the lid for the display and make a button.

But I am already pretty happy with the results, thank you @FreeCAD - it's really enjoyable to work with FreeCAD!

When it's finished I want to install it in the attic as my stationary Meshtastic node.

A half transparent CAD model of a small case for a micro controller and a small OLED display. It has a hole for a USB-C port and oo the other side it has a hole for an antenna.
An ESP32S3 micro controller with a Wio-SX1262 LoRa hat on top. It is attached to a small breadboard which also hold some cables and a about 1 inch OLED display.
The previously shown 3D model of the case now is printed and the micro controller and the display are installed in the case. The two antennas, one for LoRa and one for WiFi, are just dangling around at the moment.

A ver se alguén con experiencia en FreeCAD me pode botar unha man:

Teño unha matriz polar de buratos, configurable a través dunha folla de cálculo para escoller as dimensións e o número de buratos.
Quero colocar un parafuso en cada burato, e para iso necesito facer outra matriz polar de parafusos, pero non atopo o xeito de facelo. Os parafusos creados co Fasteners Workbench parece que non son válidos para crear matrices con eles.

Ocórreselle a alguén o xeito de facelo?

Part 3 of building the DIY seismograph. So continuing on the moving arm concept, I settled on using a servo motor as this could easily be driven by the Arduino. I had to make the arm very light so as not to put too much pressure on the small servo motor I was going to use. Here is the model of the arm. Although I went back and forth with different ends to hold the pen, ultimately I ended up going with this clip. Modeled in #freecad #maker #diy #earthquake #arduino #servomotor #seismograph

Image shows a computer aided drawing model of an extended thin arm with holes to make it lighter. At the end of the arm is a hoop for holding a pen. The hoop has a small opening on one side to allow the hoop to expand a bit to hold the pen tightly.

This was the Mark 1 prototype with the servo motor mounted in the middle of the arm. Subsequent tests would show that the length of the arm prevented the servo from moving it fast enough to give a good pseudo representation of a seismograph.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of workflows do you #freecad or other CAD package users have for simple stuff you need to model for 3D printing or CNC'ing?

I start with a crude Post-It note version and try to get all the measurements in that phase, so when I get to the good part, I can just keep on drawing without killing the flow.

Passer un certain temps dans et son son atelier , l'avoir qui plante régulièrement jusqu'à... Ce qu'il ne parvienne plus à ouvrir le fichier, qui venait d'être sauvegardé... 😭

I'm working on my roller-bearing. Tweaking physical parameters based on first 3D prints.

I wish I could have on-screen visibility and scrollability of VarSet, when I'm working on the 3D view, Sketches, solids etc.

I keep forgetting my variable logic in VarSets. Cognitive load is substantial.

Then I resort to copy pasting expression values between constraints.

This is my first major project (2nd part). Still learning best strategies, while also hoping for better UX to help #FreeCAD
