Oliver Wendell Jones is going through the mail with Opus. "`Occupant'... `Occupant'... `Occupant'... `Occupant'... `Occupant'... `Occupant'..." Opus concurs, "Sheesh! We've become such a depersonalized society!" Oliver finds a different one, "Here's one: `Motherless occupant suffering Oedipus complex -- short, dark, nose haemorrhoids." Opus says, "Oh, that's me!"

Opus is walking with Milo in the gloomy moonlight. He's equally gloomy, "A roof caved in at a Mexican market Tuesday. Hundreds dead. A church bus plunged off a cliff in Spain Wednesday. Last month a hurricane hit the poorest nation in the southern hemisphere. 40,000 are homeless. I... I think god is dead." Milo turns to him and says, "Opus, I want to tell you something." "What?" he asks dejectedly. "Someone threw a chair at Geraldo Rivera's nose recently." Opus suddenly looks up and seems to brighten up, "A hit?" "With aesthetic damage." Milo tells him. The pair walk towards the sunrise along a flowery path. "I'm born again." Opus tells Milo. "I thought you'd be."

His father is sitting in his underwear in an armchair and says, "I feel old... I feel real old.! Binkley adds, "He think he's no longer a contemporary man." "I feel like... an artefact... Opus is lying on his back outside while it snows. His wings are spread wide and his enormous beak is sticking upwards. He thinks to himself, "The famous `performance artist' begins a new masterpiece:" The snow starts to accumulate around him and on his torso as well as his beak. "Ice crystals... whiteness... Floating..." He is now have buried in the snow and it is piling on his beak too. "A growing pillar or being... I am on with heaven... 'Lo! I am..." A dog sees him lying there and comes up for a closer inspection. "Nothingness!" The dog is sniffing around Opus's beak. A bubble appears pointing to the dog and reads, "Sceptical critic of modern art fixin' to bestow his review."

He says, "Ya know, in years past one could watch Jack Benny at 8 pm every Saturday night and know you're sharing the same moment with nearly every other American." He begins clicking through the myriad channels available to him. "`The Exxxtasy Channel presents Linda Lewd does Louiville.'" His colleague says, "S'pose we're sharing this with Carol Burnett?"

An alien spaceship swoops down and lands on Earth. A little alien steps out and says something to Opus in an alien language. Opus has his hands up, "Don't shoot! You want me to take you to our leader, right? Ya kinda caught us at an awkward time, leader-wise. Coming up, we got, uh... Mike Dukakis or George Bush." The alien says something, ending in "Shrimp and Wimp?" Opus says to readers, "He saw last week's episode! Plus of course, we've got Bentsen and Quayle." The alien says, "The codger and the dodger?" Opus says, "Exactly, sir! So would any of them be a suitable opponent to face in a battle for domination of our planet?" The alien blows a triple-mouthed raspberry. As the alien begins to climb aboard his ship, Opus says, "Well don't go home made." The alien mumbles something ending with, "... Gregory Peck!!" The last caption reads, "Thus, Earth was narrowly saved from a bold alien assault. By default."

Ronald-Ann is having a Nightmare on Bloom Street. "The are cutting down all the rainforests. There goes all our oxygen. They're dump toxic and nuclear gross stuff in the ground and water... Acid rain. Our lakes are gonna croak." By now she is wearing a gas mask, "Ozone layer... greenhouse effect, air pollution, infected hypodermic needles on the beach." Suddenly, she sees what looks like home, "Our saviour! A presidential candidate!" A man in a suit but also wearing a gas mask says, "I darned well pledge allegiance to the flag. Indivisible, hallowed be my name, our purple mountains, majesty, liberty and justice for all... Thank you." Roland-Ann tunrs to the reader and says, "Shoot, who need Freddie Krueger?"

In a tribute to Emily Dickinson, Opus is acting out some lines from her poetry.
"Do run through gilded veld with sunshine fluster..."
"Do lean to norther' wind of Autumn bluster"
"Do dance 'pon emerald pond of winter crusted..."
"Do waltz in morning's dawn butterfly trusted!"
"Do taste moonbeams crossing all starlight dusted..."
"Just don't sneeze while flossing that upper cuspid."
In the last one, Opus has inadvertently slices off his nose/beak, which is lying on the bathroom floor.

Binkley meets someone famous working as on a road construciton, "Wha...? Elvis?! Elvis Presley?!" The worker says, "Mum's the word! I tired of the 15-hour workday of a Vegas headliner. So I faked my death and came here to make some easy dough." Binkley can't believe it, "Working on a state road crew?" The worker says, "Where else can you earn so much for standing around all day scratching your behind?" Binkley says, "But Elvis! This isn't... You... It... <Sigh> Thus the odd and terrible link between twin decline of America's rock n' roll and highways." The worker says, "Pass me a doughnut Dewey." Another worker leans back and says, "Ain't my job."
