North Korean APT37 Mobile Spyware Discovered

A new Android spyware called KoSpy has been attributed to the North Korean group APT37 (ScarCruft). The malware, active since March 2022, targets Korean and English-speaking users by masquerading as utility apps. KoSpy uses a two-stage C2 infrastructure, retrieving initial configurations from Firebase cloud databases. It can collect extensive data, including SMS messages, call logs, location, files, audio, and screenshots via dynamically loaded plugins. The spyware has been distributed through Google Play and third-party app stores. Evidence suggests infrastructure sharing with APT43 (Kimsuky), another North Korean state-sponsored group. KoSpy's capabilities include collecting sensitive information, recording audio, capturing screenshots, and keylogging. The campaign targets Korean and English speakers, with samples available on Google Play and third-party stores.

I think #Microsoft have given themselves enough rope with #Recall. For Reasons, running anything like it would be flat out, no discussion, illegal in my org. As #CISO I’m sensitive to such things… :)

Sure we run a MSFT shop, and sure they theoretically have access to all that data anyhow - can’t [viably yet] process ciphertext, they see all the cleartext at some point.

The rope part is that argument. If MSFT argues that they see all data *anyway* so why not Recall, they burst our collective hallucination that various #GDPR agreements are actually worth a damn [Narrator: They’re not].

And then, my #infosec friends, I get to eject Microsoft - and coincidentally all other #US #cloud services as well as collateral damage - and finally build a full scale Linux/FOSS environment.

It’ll be more fun than I can #recall!

As of now every CD I own has now been ripped.

Schade #heise. Wieder mal ein Downer für mich: Ein für mich prinzipiell sehr interessanter Artikel zu Rasenrobotern, der mit keinem Wort erwähnt, ob man eines der Geräte auch ohne Verbindung zum Hersteller voll nutzen kann.

Starke Abhängigkeit zu einer App lässt mich vermuten, dass damit auch die #Cloud mitgemeint ist.

Dann hoffe ich, dass mein alter #Gardena möglichst lange noch durchhält. Der braucht weder Internet noch Cloud noch App für seine Funktion.

Nebenbei: der flexible Begrenzungsdraht scheint mir immer noch deutlich praktischer zu sein als die teuren High-Tech-Alternativen: einfach zu installieren, einfach zu korrigieren/finetunen, lästig aber akzeptabel bei der Fehlersuche bei Kabelbruch.

Offsetting water usage elsewhere?
Assisting farmers to lower water use with ai?
Maybe stop pushing new projects in areas with water scarcity instead of pushing costs and responsibility to others!
Fuck amazon, google and microsoft... And don't forget about fucking meta and apple!
