This was an eye-opening introduction to the history of Ferris State University. As a Michigander, I have only been to Big Rapids twice in my life, was never interested in FSU as a high school senior. But it appears they have some interesting history that more people should know about. Give this a read. I really liked it a lot and will make the journey to the Jim Crow Museum there sometime.

The siege is over but the war goes on. ‘The Eye of Horus’ is an atmospheric World War Two thriller with settings that move from the Highlands of Scotland via Gibraltar to Malta.

Valletta has a central part to play in the story. Bob and Monique stay in the city and their exploration of some of its seamier areas produces leads about the fate of the men they are seeking.

About a third of Ancillary Justice read. Had to go reserve the next two in the series to continue with it immediately!! Also pleased to see there's a lot more to read from the author. 😌

This reminds me a lot of the Teixcalaan duology, and I have to keep reminding myself that Leckie went there first. Luckily it's also a lot better than either of the duology so I don't feel too frustrated about the similarities!

I guess there's not that many ways to build a space empire that takes over other worlds, the politics be politicking.

[Tepid Jemisin spoilers]

Im at the part of the book where desperation is hitting & so the people are trying "something different" - aka, coexisting in s quasi-egalitarian commune made up of humans, stone eaters, & orogenes - in lieu of ordering based on caste, empire, caste, & race.

Reminds of what it might need to take to get us past capitalism.

Good recc @aleen
