Judder<p>Caused by two recent examples I've seen, where anouncements for PhD positions had some funny "desired requirements" (experience in teaching, high skills in writing scientific publications) I would enjoy further examples like this.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/academicchatter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>academicchatter</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>science</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FediHire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FediHire</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/phdlife" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>phdlife</span></a></p>

I think I'm done with screens for the day. Fortunately automation helps, and drawing the lineages as graphs allows to spot errors more easily.<br>Now I have a clean dataset that I can analyse and also use as a training dataset for the next iteration!</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/microscopy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microscopy</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/AcademicChatter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AcademicChatter</span></a></p>

I mean, I trust this particular student, but running admissions this way would seem to make any recommendations the committee receives totally useless.</p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/academia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>academia</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/AcademicChatter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AcademicChatter</span></a></p>

Christian Meesters<p>Just had a wonderful conversation with a lady from our public transport service in <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Mainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mainz</span></a>:</p><p>A participant from a course came from abroad, wanted to by a ticket in the tram for the last bit to the university. He failed to do so for lack of a ticket machine. Subsequently, he attempted an app and in the process of buying that ticket, he was "caught" without a valid ticket and fined 60€.</p><p>Technically, he was violating the "terms of transportation". Then again, what message does it send if a city will fine students from abroad on a visit?</p><p>So, I appealed on behalf of that student (due to language issues) - and today the charge was dropped!</p><p><a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/academicchatter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>academicchatter</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Mainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mainz</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/JGU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JGU</span></a></p>
K Belisario (she/her)<p>I’m thinking of using change scores in regression trees to probe why some people are insulated from having a rebound of anxiety/ depression symptoms whilst others are not, given alcohol’s effects as a depressant. I typically wouldn’t use change scores (i.e. measure at follow-up subtracted from baseline), but this seems like an appropriate use. I’m curious if anyone has experience of using change scores in this sort of context?
