Great read for #climate activists: "The carbon footprint sham"
The article argues that the "#Carbon #footprint" is a brilliant PR #campaign by British Petroleum #BP who wants you to accept your personal responsibility for the globally disrupted climate that in fact they are producing.
“The strategy is to put as much blame on the consumer as possible, knowing the consumer is not in a good place to control the situation. It basically ensures that nothing changes.”
As we organize the annual FreedomBox Summit this year (collaborating virtually), we are using @cryptpad to coordinate our efforts.
It is impressive how much the product has improved over the last year. It feels like it's mostly at feature parity with Google Docs now, with the exception of email integration.
About FreedomBox Summit 2020
@paolog tried packaging yarn 2 and this is what he found
Quoting part of it,
"the tarball is 180 MB (up from ~70 MB for yarn 1) and has all dependencies needed to run yarn (!) including monaco-editor (?) from Microsoft (the code editor which powers VS Code), react-icons, 6 versions of the typescript tree (version 3.75, 3.95 and 4.1 and three patched versions) etc."
Je ne suis pas pour avoir une multiplication de boutons « partager avec X ».
Je préfère largement la possibilité de copier l’URL d’un épisode afin de pouvoir le coller où je veux.
Any #nodejs developers interested in taking up this challenge?
Yarn 2.x already moved to babel 7.x but there is no stable release for yarn 2.x and it is completely different from yarn 1.x.
This will help us ship yarn in #debian (we already moved everything else to babel 7.x but could not port this yet) for next stable release bullseye.
It would be useful to nodejs developers to make initial installation of yarn easy.
Just found out about the #FreedomBox project: a FOSS software and hardware bundle to decentralize the web and cloud hosting. Looks like a very nice solution and a good initiative and under active development. The HW (#OSHW certified!) by #Olimex seems really promising -- anyone tried this or their #OLinuXino line in general for a home server?

"Homeworld" will be the default theme for Debian 11 :

Free software funding idea: Honorary employee
A company adopts a maintainer of a free software project as an honorary <some title based on company> so that they can continue their free software development full time..
An honorary employee doesn't report to any manager in the company nor is accountable for any of its goals. Their relationship to this company is only for tax purposes. The company does this because it depends on the free software project.
